Explosions at Boston marathon: 2 dead 100 injured
Two people are dead and 23 are injured after multiple explosions shattered the finish of the Boston Marathon on Monday, according to a tweet from the Boston Police Department. A U.S. intelligence official says that two additional explosive devices were found at the marathon and are being dismantled.Boston’s police commissioner says there has been a third incident at JFK Library, which may or may not be related. He is urging people to stay indoors and not congregate in large groups.
About two hours after the winners crossed the finish line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the line. Another explosion could be heard a few seconds later.
One runner, a state police officer from neighbouring Rhode Island, said he saw at least two dozen people with very serious injuries, including missing limbs.
The explosions sent authorities out on the course to carry away the injured while stragglers in the 42.195-kilometre race were rerouted away from the smoking site.
